Overall crystal growth kinetics for ammonium nitrate crystals in a laboratory scale draft tube baffled agitated Crystallizer have been determined from the batch experiments performed in the integral mode. The effects of supersaturation, temperature, crystal slze, slurry voidage, stirrer speed, and impurity were investigated. Three different methods, viz. polynomial fltting, initial derivatives, and optimization procedures, in general gave comparable results for the growth kinetics. I n a conventional method using the polynomial fitting of desupersaturation curves the order of growth process was about 0.75 and activation energy about 25 kJ/mol. Growth rates in the present study appear to have significant bulk diffusion contribution.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
