The 48.7m 111"Cd activity was implanted in Zn and Be single crystals which were soldered to the cold finger of a dilution refrigerator and kept below 0.2 K during implantation. Subsequent nuclear orientation experiments allowed the determination of the quadrupole interaction frequency vQ of the 11/2-isomeric state of 111Cd in Zn and Be as -139(15)MHz and +43(16)MHz respectively. With these results we derive the quadrupole moment of the 5/2 + 245 keV level of 111Cd including sign as Q = +0.83 (13) b and the sign of the electric field gradient for Cd in Be. The half-life of 11~'~Cd was redetermined as 48.67 (6) m.
Low temperature nuclear orientation experiments have been performed with samples prepared by simultaneous implantation of 198' ~99Au in Zn and Cd single crystals. From the data quadrupole interactions frequencies have been derived as: ve(198AuZn)= + 162(3) MHz, ve(199AuZn) = + 127(2)MHz, ve(~98AuCd)= + 130(4)MHz and Ve(199AuCd)= +107(3)MHz. The ratio of the quadrupole moments of 198Au and 199Au is derived as Q198/Q199 = 1.26(3).
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
