The absorption and fluorescence spectra of SmCl3 have been studied at 4°K and the Zeeman effects of many lines obtained in a magnetic field of 35 100 G. The lower group of levels obtained chiefly from the fluorescence spectrum can be unambiguously identified as the multiplet components of the 6H and 6F levels. The situation for the higher levels is confused.
The splitting into Stark components of many of the levels could be determined with their symmetry and magnetic properties.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
