The seeds ofVernonia volkameriaefolia contain 20% oil and are a good source of epoxidized triglycerides. The vernolic acid (cis‐12, 13‐epoxy‐cis‐9, 10‐octadecenoic acid) content of the oil was 63.5%. The structure of this compound was established by chemical and physical methods, including a study of the mass spectral fragmentation of the parent compound and its derivatives.
Long-chain enolacetates were prepared by refluxing the keto fatty acids with acetic anhydride and p-toluene sulfonic acid (p-TSA). 10-Oxoundecanoic and 2-o:iohexadecanoic acids gave mainly 10acetoxy-10-undecenoic and 2-acetoxy-2-hexadecenoic acids, respectively. On the other hand, 12-oxooctadecanoic acid on similar treatment was assumed to yield an isomeric mixture of 12-acetoxy-12(ll)-octadecenoic acids. The structure of the individual reaction products were established by spectral studies.
ABSTRACTSeed oils of Urena repanda and Tbespesia lampas (Malvaceae) were found to contain malvalic (2.6, 0.6%) and sterculic (1.1, 2.1%) acids, respectively, besides the normal fatty acids. Cooccurrence of these two acids were established by gas chromatographic analysis of silver nitrate/methanol-treated methyl esters using Sterculia foetida esters as a reference standard.
Nuvan (0.1%) and Endrin (0.15%), 1135 litres per hectare were most effective in controlling the fully matured red hairy caterpillar Amsacta moorei Butl. BHC, Carbaryl, Thiodan and Sumethion were of less effectiveness.
Zusammenfassung
Zur Bekämpfung von Amsacta moorei Butl. (Lep., Arctiidae) in Indien
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
