The synthesis of chiral 1-bromo-l-methylspiro[2.5]octane ( 13) is described. The absolute configuration of 13 has been established as (S)-(+). From stereochemistry, product analysis, and radical trapping experiments it is concluded that the reaction of chiral 13 with magnesium to form the corresponding Grignard reagent occurs mainly on the surface of the magnesium.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
