In their theory of a y angular correlations, Rose and Brink leave the relative sign of different partial wave5 in a-capture undetermined. Some confusion has arisen in the experimental literature where the sign has also been considered as somewhat arbitrary for a-decay. We derive an explicit relation between these two processes and show how the above sign may easily be fixed by considering the simpler problem of a-decay of a deformed nucleus polarized in a strong magnetic field. We discuss the anisotropy of the angular distribution for this latter problem. N Rowley et al J,=J, a) ncapture J dn:-.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
