early melanosomes (Basrur, et al., 2002). Along with the recent release of the nearly complete zebrafish genome, these results suggest that nearly all genes implicated to date in vertebrate pigmentation are found in zebrafish and confirm the feasibility of using morpholinos for the investigation of pigmentation in this model vertebrate. As such, the zebrafish is uniquely positioned as a viable molecular genetic system for the study of conserved genes involved in vertebrate pigmentation.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
