Myiasis is a rare disease primarily caused by infestation of tissue by larvae of houseflies. Oral myiasis is still more “rare” and “unique” owing to the fact that oral cavity rarely provides the necessary habitat conducive for a larval lifecycle. Here we report a case of extensive gingival myiasis, in an 81-year-old female patient, diagnosed and treated successfully in our department. The case is discussed in relation to its clinical presentation, etiopathogenesis, management, and prognosis.
Human growth and development is a meticulously planned and precisely executed process. Even a mild disturbance can have clinically significant manifestations later on. Even today, ancient beliefs and practices override/delay patient's aspiration for seeking treatment as seen in the case report presented here. Congenital bifid tongue in association with various other orofacial abnormalities has been reported, many of which have been linked to various syndromes. But congenital bifid tongue occurring in the absence of other orofacial abnormalities is very rare. Here, we discuss a case of bifid tongue involving the anterior one-third of tongue, reported in a 45-year-old male patient unusually with no other intraoral abnormalities.
Introduction: Diversity in facial soft tissue parameters and ever increasing demand for esthetic/cosmetic facial augmentations, has paved a need to have precise baseline data so as to what constitutes a 'pleasing face'. With the ever increasing integrations of technology into diagnosis and treatment, we are currently in a position to have a detailed and precise evaluation for the same. Here, we have used Adobe Photoshop (CS 3) software for the development of individualized soft tissue facial analysis with special emphasis on parameters related to nose useful in planning for rhinoplasty procedures. A landmark based geometric morphometric technique is proposed to analyze the nasal shapes in a young adult population.Materials and methods: 50 males and 50 females within the age group of 18 to 22 years belonging to Northern Karnataka, Indian subcontinent were chosen to participate in this photographic study and Adobe Photoshop (CS 3) software was used for the soft tissue facial analysis. Results: Statistically significant differences were noted for most of the parameters in the horizontal and vertical plane in the frontal, profile and base view. Linear and angular measurements demonstrating sexual dimorphism have also been evaluated.
Conclusion:The esthetic ideals have been proposed to serve as a template to guide preoperative discussions and cosmetic treatment planning especially in relation to rhinoplasty procedures.

ABSTRACTPatients with cleidocranial dysplasia commonly present with significant dental problems, such as retention of multiple deciduous teeth, impaction or delayed eruption of teeth and the presence of multiple supernumerary teeth. In fact, the presence of multiple supernumerary teeth is one among the pathognomonic triad for this condition; the other two being partial or complete absence of clavicles, and open sagittal sutures and fontanelles. This case report describes a patient having typical features of cleidocranial dysplasia who had to undergo surgical enucleation and debridement for an infected mandibular cyst. Factors dictating the treatment plan and the current trends in rehabilitation for such a patient have been discussed from a dental surgeon's perspective acknowledging the shift in management paradigm for this condition over the years.(This page in not part of the published article.)
