With the commercialization of high speed cameras we have started revealing interesting animal behaviors. Analyzing animal kinematics in 3D requires multiple high speed cameras. These special cameras are extremely expensive. In this work, we leverage a classic approach of capturing simultaneous and multiple views using a single camera and planar mirrors. We present a user-friendly toolbox which enables calibration of this low cost setup, and 3D analysis of high speed maneuvers. Within ~15 minutes, a single high speed camera is calibrated and can be used to acquire 3D data. We accompany the toolbox with detailed user guide and video tutorial (https://tinyurl.com/yckm9y6b) for ease of use. We reconstruct wing-beats of multiple flies (dragonfly, butterfly) with high accuracy.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
