With the development of Micro-/Nanoelectromechanical systems (MEMS/NEMS), the friction problems at micro/nanoscale induced the failure of many devices in MEMS. The basic model of atomic-scale friction and associated advancement of experimental research were reviewed in this paper. Two common atomicfriction behaviors, i.e. stick-slip and super-lubricity friction were also discussed here. Challenges and promising points for future research in atomic-scale friction were enumerated.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
