APPLICATION OF HIGH STRENGTH NIOBIUM MICROALLOYED STEELS IN THE CONTAINERS OF GRAIN TRASPORT TRUCKS AbstractTo reduce weight and increase payload, CBMM applied high strength niobium microalloyed steels in the containers of grain transport trucks in the Triângulo Mineiro and Alto Paranaíba regions of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The new design reduced container weight by 10% and increased volume from 27 m 3 to 29 m 3 . Return on investment was achieved in only eight days for rice transportation. Gains were also made in corn and soybean transport, attaining return on investment in 21 and 56 days, respectively. The paper describes the steels used and the key design modifications in the containers.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
