SummaryCorrelation between chemical structure and Rf-values was studied in the case of aniline and its derivatives using high performance TLC and a U-chamber. The characteristic group constants referring to each substituent were determined by chromatographing derivatives with one substituent and aniline in toluene and dibutyl ether respectively. On the basis of these constants the RM and Rf values of derivatives with more substituents were calculated. Comparing the calculated and measured values good agreement was found.
HPTLC has proved to be an useful method for purity and stability control and for the quantitative determination of pharmaceutically important compounds. This work deals with two problems in this field.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
