Abstract Deep cutaneous fungal infections are becoming more common due to both immunosuppression and global dispersion. Understanding these fungal infections requires not only reading many case reports and verifying typical clinical images of skin lesions but also properly managing patients to avoid misdiagnosis. This systematic review was made on PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE, with the key words: Deep cutaneous fungal infections, mycosis, dermatomycosis, diagnosis and mycotic histopathology. The total number of the articles consulted for it, was 151 and 81 articles were selected for this review. On those, the deep cutaneous mycoses were described for some authors and the histopathological findings of those fungal infections that are commonly observed in daily clinical practice are summarized. Early recognition of this type of infection is important since these pathologies are frequently associated with high morbidity, especially in subjects with impaired immunity. Keywords: Fungal infections, deep cutaneous, mycosis, histopathology, diagnosis.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
