Inducible vascular nitric oxide synthasc accounts for the contractile impairment observed in endotoxcmia. WC provide evidence that lipoteichoic acid (LTA) from Srupplr,&eoccrts uurees. a micro-organism without endotoxin. also induces nilric oxide synthasc. Our study demonstrates that on endothclium-free rings ofra~ aorta, LTAmlike lipopolysaccheridc inducesa loss ofcontractility restored by Mcthylene blucand p-nitro+argininc-methyl ester (LNAME). Moreover in cultured vascular smooth muscle cells. LTA produces a dose-dependent increase in intracellular cyclic GMP which is antaponired by LNAME and prevented by dcxamcthasone.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
