O desenvolvimento de abordagens para estudo de cadeias de suprimentos é relativamente recente e vem sendo tratado em periódicos científicos, de modo sistemático, apenas a partir do final dos anos 80. Neste artigo, são apresentados, inicialmente, os principais pressupostos da abordagem que ficou conhecida como Gestão da Cadeia de Suprimentos (GCS). Em seguida, procura-se ilustrar, a partir de uma revisão parcial de trabalhos realizados sobre a indústria automobilística, em que medida tais pressupostos podem, ou não, ser verificados. Constatando que apenas em alguns casos o conjunto de pressupostos tende a se tornar realidade, sugere-se que seja desenvolvida uma etapa metodológica inicial para a verificação de tais pressupostos ou para a avaliação das características estruturais e relacionais da cadeia de suprimentos a ser estudada. Procurando contribuir para o desenvolvimento dessa primeira etapa metodológica, faz-se uma breve síntese de algumas correntes teóricas que podem oferecer subsídios para a análise das características estruturais e relacionais principais da cadeia de suprimentos. Tal análise auxilia a avaliar o contexto em que princípios e técnicas da GCS poderão ser propostos e implementados e, também, pelo menos parcialmente, os resultados que poderão ser alcançados.
Despite great developmental efforts in recent decades, Latin America still presents high levels of poverty and inequality when compared to developed nations. As explored widely in the literature, one potential instrument to diminish these issues is financial inclusion, including the access and usage of financial services by all people. Specifically, this paper verifies if financial inclusion and technology adoption decrease the poverty headcount ratio and the Gini index (i.e., inequality) of 13 Latin America countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay). To perform such analysis, an unbalanced panel dataset was built, and the Feasible Generalized Least Squares (FGLS) and the Limited Information Maximum Likelihood (LIML) techniques were employed. The results suggest that, in accordance with previous studies, financial inclusion is a powerful tool to tackle poverty and inequality. Additionally, the combined effects of financial inclusions and technology (i.e., mobile use) are also capable of decreasing the poverty and inequality levels. We discuss the policy implications of our findings and suggest a future research agenda.
The relatively good recycling performance in Brazil is associated to material recovery chains involving a huge number of informal waste collectors. Over the past decades, social activists have supported grassroots recycling cooperatives and these organizations have spread around the country becoming consecrated in the National solid waste policy as a legitimate form to organize recycling. This article analyses the emergence of “solidarity recycling” in Brazil, addressing the cultural and political relations and processes that have led to its legitimation. Cross-fertilizing Bourdieu’s sociological approach and the strategic action fields perspective, a qualitative, retrospective, and longitudinal study was conducted using secondary and primary data from various sources. Evidence shows that the emergence of solidarity recycling has resulted from both structural convergences and strategic actions unfolding across multiple fields, indicating the complementarity of the used approaches and the importance of accounting for the interconnection of arenas.
PurposeThe paper seeks to ascertain some of the implications of the supply chain configuration for important elements of the chain's management at an automaker using the industrial condominium configuration.Design/methodology/approachIn an attempt to identify the main motivating factors for the adoption of an industrial condominium configuration, a basic case study framework was built to guide and define the key content of the research. The framework considers simplification, cost reduction, process integration, and shared infrastructure as the four main interdependent factors that impel and drive an automaker's implementation of a condominium. It also considers product and process management, logistics management, performance assessment and relationship management as business processes significantly affected by implementation of the condominium. Using an intentional sampling approach, a case study was made of an automaker that uses the industrial condominium configuration, and of four of its representative suppliers.FindingsThe study confirmed that the supply chain's configuration is indeed a determining element in the way the automaker's relationship with its suppliers is conducted and substantiated the importance of the logistics management process within the context of the condominium.Research limitations/implicationsThe research reported involved only one case study.Practical implicationsThe paper proposes and discusses four interdependent factors that motivate and drive an automaker's implementation of a contemporary industrial condominium in the auto industry.Originality/valueThe study was conducted in a supply chain with an automaker using an industrial condominium and four suppliers situated in different positions, and contributes mainly to the understanding of new forms of supply chain configuration.
