Starting from the premise that the technological modification of human body is a favourite theme in neo-gothic literature, this paper proposes an analysis of the relationship between human and non-human elements in speculative fiction. Interventions on the human body through treatments or prostheses are approached in several fictional works belonging to the canon of the Gothic, to Romanian fantastic literature, and to contemporary SF literature.
