Relations between service and support utilization, problem-solving/coping strategies, level of personal burden experienced by younger and older caregivers were examined. Overall, there were no differences in the number of support services received. However, younger caregivers reported significantly more unmet service needs and rated significantly more of them as a critical or an emergency need. Both groups had highly developed effective problem-solving skills. However, older caregivers were more likely to seek spiritual support and the younger caregivers more apt to mobilize their families to acquire and accept help. Older caregivers experienced significantly less personal burden. Results suggest that younger caregivers are more predisposed toward seeking outside help and have higher expectations of the service system.
Postacute rehabilitation is associated with functional gains for individuals with TBI beyond what can be explained by undirected recovery. These findings provide evidence for postacute rehabilitation as effective care after TBI.
This experiment investigated attitudes toward students and assignment of responsibility for student performance by 48 male and 48 female undergraduates acting as experimental teachers. Specifically, sex and locus of control of the teacher-subjects and ascribed performance and motivation of simulated students were studied for effects on teacher attitudes and assignment of responsibility for learning outcomes. Apparent student performance strongly affected both teacher attitudes and assignment of responsibility, while ascribed student motivation affected only teacher attitudes. Female subjects with internal locus of control assumed more responsibility for student performance than female subjects with external locus of control, but this expected finding was not observed in male subjects.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
