She outlined the need for preservation (value of a collection), causes of deterioration (natural enemies and human enemies), and practical advice (preventive techniques). Many examples of damaged materials were provided for inspection. Participants were encouraged to use various handouts as well as the presentation itself in developing a similar workshop at their respective libraries.
