While recruiting and hiring minorities in academia and other organizations is an excellent goal, there are many consideration.~ which must take place in order to establish an atmosphere which is productive and comfortable for both employer and employee. An eslablished "old-boy" network has worked well in business and industry. Many of the practices which have served that comrnt~nitv well must now be adouted in order to retain the minori-$s wh~o hive been hired in acaderha. ~h e s e practices are mentoring and sswrvision within the ormnizational structure and networkingboth within and without the skcture.
