This research concerned with the correlation between reading habit and students’ reading comprehension acheivements. The method used was correlational design. The population and samples were 37 Students. Questionnaire and documentation were used to collect the data. The researchers used Pearson Product Moment Correlation to analyze the data. The results showed that r-obtained was 0.353 compared to r-value interpretation of 0.200 to 0.400 which means there was a low correlation. Yet, r-table of 37 students was 0.325 while r-obtained was 0.353 which means that there was a significant correlation.
This research aims at determining the similarities, dissimilarities, and possible learning difficulties faced by the students learning English and Indonesian copulative verbs, as well as the recommendations to TEFL. The descriptive research design was used. The documentation technique was applied to collect the data. To analyze the data, the researchers used a descriptive analysis. The results showed that there were two similarities between English and Indonesian copulative verbs in meanings and dynamic verb. The three dissimilarities were in grammatical structure, tense on subject-verb agreement and certain verbs. The possible learning difficulties faced by the students learning English and Indonesian copulative verbs was tense and subject-verb agreement. The recommendations of this research was as a fundamental teaching guidance in helping English teachers design a better teaching Grammar on copulative verbs, in terms of nonverbal copulative nominal, stative copulative nominal and dynamic copulative nominal.
The phenomenon of culture shock has some impacts on foreigners (i.e. psychological impact and intellectual impact), especially for foreign students studying in a new country. This research is aimed at figuring out the dominant aspects of culture shocks faced by the three Thai students studying at Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang and how they cope with it. Descriptive-qualitative method was used in this research.To collect the data, the researchers used interview and questionnaire. Coding technique was used in analyzing the data. The results showed two dominant aspects of culture shocks found, namely: academic shocks (i.e teacher’s role and attitude, poorly organized program and classroom organization, and local students’ attitude). and social shocks (i.e.women-men relationship, community bonding, habits in social gathering). Generally, the three Thai students coped with the shock by preparing mental and psychology, as well as learning academic destination.
This research was conducted to figure out the imagery and its meanings in the five poetry of Emily Dickinson. This research was regarded on a descriptive-qualitative study. The researcher applied documentation technique in collecting the data. In data analysis, psychoanalytic approach by Kristeva was used. The results of the research showed that there were sixty-two types of imagery foundin the five poetry of Emily Dickinson, for instance; fifty-one visual, one auditory, one olfactory, three tactile, one organic and five kinesthetics. In addition, the five poetry of Emily Dickinson had something to do with the themes and meanings of humans livesand their relationship with their God that symbolized and illustrated by things, and personally regarded on the reflections of Emily Dickinsons life.
