Laser diode action in the blue-green has been observed from (Zn,Cd)Se quantum wells within ZnSe/Zn(S,Se) p-n heterojunctions up to 250 K. Operation is reported for two different configurations for which the GaAs substrate serves either as the n- or p-type injecting contact. In pulsed operation, output powers exceeding 0.6 W have been measured in devices prepared on both n-type and p-type GaAs epitaxial buffer layers and substrates.
Background
The prevalence of extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) in patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) has been increasing rapidly worldwide. However, guidelines or clinical studies do not provide sufficient data on ECPR practice. The aim of this study was to provide real-world data on ECPR for patients with OHCA, including details of complications.
Methods
We did a retrospective database analysis of observational multicenter cohort study in Japan. Adult patients with OHCA of presumed cardiac etiology who received ECPR between 2013 and 2018 were included. The primary outcome was favorable neurological outcome at hospital discharge, defined as a cerebral performance category of 1 or 2.
Results
A total of 1644 patients with OHCA were included in this study. The patient age was 18–93 years (median: 60 years). Shockable rhythm in the initial cardiac rhythm at the scene was 69.4%. The median estimated low flow time was 55 min (interquartile range: 45–66 min). Favorable neurological outcome at hospital discharge was observed in 14.1% of patients, and the rate of survival to hospital discharge was 27.2%. The proportions of favorable neurological outcome at hospital discharge in terms of shockable rhythm, pulseless electrical activity, and asystole were 16.7%, 9.2%, and 3.9%, respectively. Complications were observed during ECPR in 32.7% of patients, and the most common complication was bleeding, with the rates of cannulation site bleeding and other types of hemorrhage at 16.4% and 8.5%, respectively.
Conclusions
In this large cohort, data on the ECPR of 1644 patients with OHCA show that the proportion of favorable neurological outcomes at hospital discharge was 14.1%, survival rate at hospital discharge was 27.2%, and complications were observed during ECPR in 32.7%.
Microbiological, immunological, host‐defensive, and genetic analyses were performed on a mother and daughter, both of whom had early‐onset periodontitis (rapidly progressive periodontitis in the mother; localized juvenile periodontitis in the daughter). Microscopic examination revealed a greatly elevated percentage of rod‐form bacteria in both subjects. Fusobacterium sp. and Porphyromonas gingivalis (formerly Bacteroides gingivalis) were the predominant microorganisms cultured. The humoral immune responses to F. nucleatum, P. gingivalis, and Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans were much higher in both subjects than those to any other periodontal bacteria examined. Functional and phenotypic analysis of the peripheral lymphocytes showed no significant abnormalities. However, investigation of neutrophil function showed that the mother had depressed neutrophil Chemotaxis and Superoxide production. The daughter had depression not only of Chemotaxis and Superoxide production, but also of neutrophil phagocytosis. Serological typing of HLA antigens revealed the same Class II HLA profile in both subjects. It was concluded that both subjects very probably had an identical condition and that these patients provided a unique model for improving our understanding of the host factors involved in periodontal disease. In recent times, IrTe 2 has attracted considerable interest because of its peculiar structural/electronic phase transition and the emergence of superconductivity upon chemical doping 1, 2 or intercalation. 2, 3 IrTe 2 crystallizes in a trigonal CdI 2 -type structure with the space group P 3m1 (No. 164). Edge-sharing IrTe 6 octahedra form two-dimensional IrTe 2 layers that are stacked along the c-axis. In each layer, Ir atoms are connected to form a regular triangular lattice. This compound undergoes a first-order structural phase transition at approximately 250 K. 4 Matsumoto et al. proposed the average structure below 250 K to be a monoclinic one with the space group C2/m (No. 12), in which the Ir-Ir bond length along the b-axis is uniformly reduced 4 so that the regular triangular lattice is deformed into an isosceles triangular one. Recently, Yang et al. 2 revealed through transmission electron microscopy (TEM) measurements that the low-temperature structure is modulated with a wave vector of
The large-scale natural disaster that hit Japan in 2011 had a serious negative impact on the clinical outcomes of COPD patients in the disaster-affected area.
