This paper presents an intelligent gateway architecture, IP-CLIX, that shields device and interface heterogeneity from network provisioning tools. A salient feature of IP-CLIX is its meta-data-driven approach, which facilitates incremental support of various interfaces and services, and enables rapid deployment of mediation modules for additional CLI types.

The introduction of a network management system is a process extended over a long period of time. All long term plans are based on forecasts. These forecasts in turn are based on experience of previous development.
