Over the past decade, the rate of births to women aged 30 years and older has risen. This trend will likely continue with the widespread availability of newer reproductive technologies. As women age, they are more likely to have comorbid conditions and women of advanced maternal age have increased complications in pregnancy. The objective of this study was to characterize the risk for severe maternal morbidity and other pregnancy complications by maternal age during delivery hospitalizations.
