Cataract surgery is ranked among the most frequent operations, affecting a population over 65 years of age.Its prognosis is often favorable, however, there are rare complications including inflammation of the anterior segment known as Anterior Segment Toxicity Syndrome . the majority of our patients were men and diabetes appear in almost half and all our patients present various symptoms the first 24 hours dominated by the attack of the anterior segment our therapeutic attitude consists in the use of corticosteroids and hypotonizers with a good evolution in the majority of patients.
Amnion, the innermost layer of the placental sac, can be harvested as graft material. It has several mechanisms of action. There are three types of this AM fresh, cryoconserved and dehydrated. The dehydrated Amniotic Membrane is the type used in our observations. We report two cases the first one a 70 years old patient with bullous keratopathy and the second one a 65 years old patient with a diffuse epithelial defect in whom the dehydrated amniotic membrane graft gave good results The effectiveness of dehydrated membrane grafting has been demonstrated in several studies but a larger study is needed to confirm its effectiveness.
Purpose: The aim of our study is to compare two different techniques for conjunctival autografting: surgical suturing and autologous blood coagulum. Methods: In this prospective study, we randomly divided 30 patients with primary pterygium into two groups similar in matter of age and sexe distribution. Group 1 underwent surgical suturing for conjunctival autografting and Group2 underwent sutureless autologous blood coagulum for that matter. We evaluated the primary outcome in terms of operative time, patients’ discomfort, graft displacement, graft failure and recurrences. The follow-up rate was at day1, week 1, month 1, 3 months and 6 months. Results: The operative time and patients’ discomfort were considerably reduced using the blood coagulum method (Operative time :15±3 minutes for Group 2 versus 32±2 minutes for Group1) (Patients discomfort p value <0.001). The graft failure and displacement were, however, higher in Group 2 compared to the first Group (p value for both is <0.001). The recurrence rate was equal in both groups. Conclusion: The use of autologous blood coagulum for conjunctival autografting is less time consuming and more comfortable for patients. However, the graft failure and displacement are more common with this technique.
Sildenafil citrate is phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitor (PDE5i) that is widely used to treat male erectile dysfunction. However, this molecule has been associated with many visual side effects which most are transient but some can lead to persistent vision loss. Non arteritic anterior ischemic neuropathy (NAION) has been reported in some cases as a very rare, but possible, Sildenafil citrate’s visual adverse effect. We present the case of young patient under erectile dysfunction medication who developed an induced toxic neuropathy, while reviewing the other reported cases in medical literature.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
