Time analysis of earthquake occurrences was performed by using 42,000 earthquakes. The group of aftershocks shows a statistically significant sidereal period. The random probability for such an effect is one part in 106. This period can be interpreted as an increase in the number of aftershocks at a time that a certain region in the sky rises and sets. The analysis shows another period of 23 hours 58.98 min in the aftershock occurrences. No correlation with lunar or solar tides was found.
3380SADEH AND MEIDAV: COMMENTARY plane with the ecliptic plane would be an apparent source for the earthquakes. A detailed model which will take into account the orientations of the fault zones and the position of masses around the earth is being contemplated. •
