As part of a larger study on the adjustment of older adults to the loss of a spouse, psychosocial changes in widowed, peer self-help group leaders are examined. Moderate changes occurred in measures of grief, depression, self-esteem, life satisfaction, loneliness and competencies. Recommendations concerning the use of peer-type leaders include supplying ongoing professional support and providing adequate screening and training.
