Reşat Nuri Güntekin is a Turkish novelist, story writer and dramatist who has a significant role in literature of Republican Era and he wrote many well-known works such as; Scrub bird (1922), Secret Hand (1922), The Mark (1924), From Mouth to Heart (1925), Green Night (1928), Fall of the Leaf (1930), Azure (1935), Old Illness (1938), Firey Night (1942) and Head in the Clouds (1961). Reşat Nuri Güntekin deals with individual and social subjects such as; family, love, child, loneliness, friendship, sacrifice and ethics and he try to depict the new contrary to the traditional and spread the ideology of Republic. In this study, it is aimed at analysing Soap - opera adaptation of his novel “Pity” based on semiological analysis. The said Soap - opera is a Turkish made drama displayed in TRT 1 between 1985 and 1986 in seven seasons. The scenes that are taken from the said Soap - opera based on semiological analysis is tried to be analysed by considering; Barthe’s concepts of connotation and denotation, language and expression, time and place, clothing and they are compared by taking features of both the period of the novel and that of the Soap - opera into consideration.
