This study aims to determine the opinions of science teachers on engineering design-based applications. For this purpose, the case study, which is one of the qualitative designs, was determined in the research. The research sample consisted of 7 science teachers who took engineering design-based courses. The criterion sampling method, which is one of the purposive sampling methods, was used. A semi-structured interview form consisting of 7 open-ended questions was used to collect research data. The data obtained by the interviews which were conducted in digital environments with the teachers were analyzed with the content analysis method. According to the findings, teachers’ views on engineering design-based applications are generally positive. Most of the teachers stated that engineering design practices improve students’ cognitive skills such as problem-solving, innovation, and creative thinking. They also stated that these practices increase student’' interest and motivation towards the courses, support their permanent and meaningful learning, and psychomotor skills such as designing and creating constructions. All of the teachers are of the view that engineering design-based applications should be integrated into the courses and they suggest that the applications might be widespread with the necessary support and updates.
Bu çalışmada “Beyin temelli öğrenme” konulu yüksek lisans tezlerinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemi YÖK Ulusal Tez Merkezinde erişime açık olan “Beyin temelli öğrenme” konulu 40 yüksek lisans tezinden oluşmaktadır. Bu kapsamda ilgili tezler demografik, örneklem, araştırma türü, kullanılan değişken, analiz teknikleri ve bulgular açısından incelenmiştir. Tezlerin özellikleri içerik analiz tekniği ile analiz edilmiştir. Kod-kategori, frekans-yüzde değerleri belirlenerek ilgili dağılımlar ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Araştırma analizi sonucunda incelenen yüksek lisans tezlerinin genelinin nicel araştırma türünde olduğu ve tezlerde deneysel desenin tercih edildiği görülmüştür. Veri analiz teknikleri olarak t testi ve içerik analizi tekniğinin çoğunlukta olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Tezler sayıca en fazla Gazi Üniversitesi, Atatürk Üniversitesi gibi köklü üniversitelerde ve çoğunlukla İlköğretim ve Eğitim programları ve öğretimi anabilim dallarında hazırlanmıştır. En çok üzerinde çalışılan örneklem İlköğretim kademesindeki öğrenci gruplarından oluşmuştur. Tezlerde en çok kullanılan değişkenlerin akademik başarı ve tutum olduğu ve tezlerden elde edilen bulgulara göre bu değişkenlerin genelinde anlamlı farklılık ve olumlu değişim gözlenmiştir.
This study was carried out to investigate middle school students’ entrepreneurial skills in terms of E-STEM education. The universe of the study comprised of middle school students in a rural area. The sample of the study, in which single group pre-and post-test design was used, consisted of 20 eighth-grade students. The mixed method was preferred. The entrepreneurship scale was used to obtain quantitative data. Semi-structured interview form was used to obtain qualitative data. E-STEM education was given to the students for 8 weeks. Pre-and post-test means of quantitative data were compared by paired-sample t test and content analysis method was used to analyze qualitative data. As a result, the scores of students’ entrepreneurial skills and sub-dimensions of entrepreneurship increased in favor of the post-test, although the overall increase was not significant. In addition, according to qualitative data, it was observed that E-STEM activities had a positive effect on the sub-dimensions.
This research was carried out to determine the effect of entrepreneurship-based STEM education on secondary school students’ self-regulation skills. The sample of the study consisted of 20 students studying in the 8th grade in the 2019-2020 academic year. Mixed method was preferred and single group pre-test-post-test model was used in the study. “Perceived Self-Regulation Skills Scale” was used to obtain quantitative data. The open-ended “Semi-structured interview form” was used to obtain qualitative data. Pre-and post-test means of quantitative data were compared by paired-sample t test and content analysis method was used to compare the pre-and post-test means of qualitative data. Entrepreneurship-based STEM education was provided to the students for 8 weeks. As a result of the research, there was no significant difference between the pre-and post-test scores of the students’ self-regulation skills, however, there was an increase in favor of the post test. In the qualitative data related to self-regulation skills, an increase was also observed in favor of the post-test regarding the the concept of self-efficacy and the sub-dimensions of self-regulation skills, called “openness” and “seeking”.
The aim of this study was to analyze the studies on distance education in the Covid-19 period. Qualitative research type was adopted in the study and document analysis method was used.100 articles published in the relevant field were analyzed by the content analysis method within the scope of the study. The trends of the relevant studies in terms of their demographic characteristics, methods, sample characteristics, aims, findings, keywords, and tools used in distance education were analyzed. According to the findings obtained from the study, the majority of the articles consisted of those conducted in Turkey, Indonesia, and the United States. The most frequently used sample type in articles was students, followed by teachers. The majority of the studies conducted at the higher education level were carried out with the participants in the Faculty of Education. The qualitative research method was mostly used in the articles flollowed by quantitative research method, also statistical analysis, content analysis and descriptive analysis were commonly preferred. Evaluation of the distance education process, due diligence, determination of the opinions and challenges, the effectiveness of distance education and suggestions regarding distance education stood out in the distribution based on the purpose. The most common positive findings were; positive attitude, flexibility, benefit, entertainment, promotion of technology, while the most common negative findings were technical infrastructure problems, communication problems, accessibility problems, adaptational problems, financial problems and psychological problems
