The dangers of consuming various food and drink products containing substances with a potential risk to human health are the subject of increased interest. There is a drive among manufacturers and the scientific community to ensure safety in the use of various foods and beverages with proven and/or suspected links to one or another disease state. Fast and reliable methods of analysis are increasingly sought for the purpose of establishing the type and concentrations of the contained substances and elements, which methods support the implementation of strict control of the quantitatively regulated levels of various indicators, including main components and impurities. The current work presents a validation procedure of an iodometric method for determining the content of glucose as the main component of three types of nutritional supplements. To evaluate the method, results for the analytical characteristics specificity, repeatability, accuracy and linearity are presented and analyzed.
Water quality is influenced by natural local climate, geology and anthropogenic effects. In the present study, surface waters in hydrographic area, situated in mining region, in the vicinity of abandon copper mine, are characterized and their quality assessed from the view point of the requirements of European Water Frame Directive and Drinking Water Directive. Three sampling campaigns starting at 2012 from 16 sampling sites, in different seasons were performed in order to evaluate both natural, seasonal variations connected with water regimes and anthropogenic pressures. Chemical elements (Al,
The issue of finding a suitable eco-technological approach for the utilization of waste meals generated in the production of vegetable oil is extremely relevant in terms of achieving a high “non-waste” degree in modern oil production. In practice, the direction related to the application of the meal as a material resource in animal husbandry is widely known – mainly for feeding of farm animals. At the same time, there are alternative areas related to other economic sectors, such as composting, biodiesel production, heat treatment and others, whose economic efficiency is still not sufficiently substantiated. Along with the topic of waste recovery, the measures for prevention of workers and ensuring safe and healthy working conditions are considered. The creation of “green” jobs, which directly or indirectly contribute significantly to the protection and restoration of the environment and to the reduction of the consumption of energy and raw materials, is extremely relevant in this direction.
Remediation through application of different kinds of mushrooms is relatively limited due to different objective factors affecting the growth and development of the mushroom species. This paper presents the results of experiments performed to cultivate the Pleurotus ostreatus mushroom on substrates based on various organic wastes and composts. The mushroom mycelium blocks were transferred to soil mixtures and the period of adaptation and sporophores formation was monitored. From sporophores was isolated and purified enzyme tyrosinase, which was tested for phenol degradation activity. The obtained results, show’s that the dense homogeneous blocks formed between the mycelium and the substrate can be used for the recovery of solid waste products for direct application to soils contaminated with phenol.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
