This paper deSCribeS the photoinstrumentation employed to record the blast and fragmentation effects on a warship resulting from the on-board detonation of various explosive warheads. Details are presented of cameras, camera protection, lighting and associated instrumentation that were used in this harsh environment Good quality results were obtained which provided scientists with a much better understanding of the damage processes involved. In particular the flashbulb lighting and camera protection equipment developed for the trial proved yew successful.
