We recommend that job descriptions that clearly define the roles and responsibilities of both RGNs and CAs are developed so that caregivers at all levels understand each others' roles and work together to co-ordinate, plan and provide residents' care.

the RUG-III system effectively differentiated between nursing home residents who are receiving 'low', 'standard' and 'enhanced' RGN care time. The findings could provide the basis of a reimbursement system for registered nursing time in long-term care facilities in the UK.
