Normotensive eyes with early EXS did not have quantitative (cell density) or qualitative (variation in cell size, frequency of hexagonal cells) morphological changes in corneal endothelium, but had higher values for IOP and CCT. After correcting IOP for CCT, the E eyes still had significantly higher IOP than the fellow NE eyes.
Advanced glaucomatous damage was associated with reduced flow both in the lamina cribrosa and the rim area but not in the peripapillary retina. Treatment with topical timolol was associated with decreased flow in the ONH.
TIMP-2 is elevated in glaucomatous process over MMP-2, which support and further extend the conjuncture that the ECM accumulation rather than degradation predominates in the pathogenesis of POAG and EXG.
Compared with nondiabetic pregnant women, retinal capillary blood flow was higher in diabetic women during pregnancy and after delivery. Together with the hormonal and metabolic changes occurring during pregnancy, hyperdynamic retinal capillary circulation may contribute to the progression of retinopathy in pregnant diabetic women.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
