An experimental high-speed magnetic recording channel using a new metal alloy composite head with 150 MHz bandwidth capability and metal particle tape has been constructed. At the linear density of 4 kfr/mm (95 to 100 kfr/in) and Nyquist frequency of 150 MHz, the measured 300 kHz slot SNR was greater than 32 dB. Using a DC-free 11-12 code at a data rate of 250 Mbitls and density of 3.35 kfr/mm (85 kfr/in), error rates of lxlO· s were measured. Under these conditions, a 300 kHz slot SNR of 37.5 dB at 125 MHz was measured.-855 -
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
