The treatment of the female patients with bipolar disorder presents various challenges for the clinician. Every woman of reproductive age needs to know the risk and benefits of her pharmacologic treatment options. Bipolar disorder should be considered chronic disorder, whose development is largely affected by hormonal changes and reproductive cycle in women. These issues should be researched more thoroughly in order to opt for the most appropriate treatment in women with bipolar disorder.
Introduction. Shared psychotic disorder, or folie ? deux, is a rare entity characterized by the transmission of psychotic symptoms from one patient (the inducer) to another (the induced). Delusional disorder is a type of mental illness (International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification, diagnosis code F24; it was moved from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, to Other Specified Schizophrenia Spectrum and Other Psychotic Disorders). Only one person (the inducer) suffers from a real psychotic disorder, and the other/s is/ are induced, and most often recover/s after separation from the inducer. Case Report. Based on the medical records and available literature on this condition, we present a case of a mother and son with this disorder, where the son with a paranoid psychosis transfers it to his mother. They lived alone in the same household for years, socially isolated from the others. Conclusion. In general, the research has shown that there are no uniform opinions among authors regarding the incidence of the disorder in males and females, at younger and older age, as well as in relationships between partners, siblings, and between parents and children. Most agree that longterm social isolation is among the most common risk factors, as well as dominance and strong power of suggestion in one partner, and passivity and tendency to suggestion in the other.
Introduction. It is known that it is possible to improve healthcare by paying more attention to psychological aspects of diagnosis and treatment of physical and mental conditions. The study and practice of such factors is called psychological medicine. The aim of this paper was to provide contemporary aspects of psychological medicine and to emphasize its contributions to clinical practice. Material and Methods. A review of the literature on psychological and psychosomatic medicine was performed using Medline and manual search. Results. The main goals of psychological medicine are comprehensive assessment of psychological factors affecting the etiology, course and outcome of illness, biopsychosocial consideration of patient care, as well as integration of specific interventions in prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of patients. We need to emphasize that due to clinical limitations, in terms of current separation of mental and physical healthcare, the treatment of many health conditions in which psychological factors are significant, is still insufficient. Conclusion. Because of its importance to patients' well-being, psychological and psychosomatic medicine should to be an integral part of clinicians' knowledge across all specialties.
