In this paper it is presented a definition of sustainable construction from ecological aspect, characterized by reducing the impact of different materials in the environment during construction, but also during the whole lifetime of use of buildings. To assess the impact of materials on health and environment is necessary to examine all phases from beginning of the materials manufacturing till the insertion to the construction, including the use of natural resources for the production of construction products, necessary energy for production, amount of release and CO2 emissions (carbon dioxide) in different stages, methods of construction, use of construction and in the end demolition and recycling. In this paper are presented aspects of a sustainable building with a particular approach to the selection of construction materials and the awareness raise about the impact of materials on environment and health during the whole life of using the facilities. Also it is presented sustainable construction and environment, materials that affecting and the conditions of the different materials using during construction in Kosovo. With a special emphasis also presented the impact of materials on our health, recent research regarding the materials using in constructions and the difference between the old and new constructions in terms of human health. The difference between buildings constructed decades ago and buildings constructing now.
The paper deals with the analysis of the fortified dwellings -Kulla, which were constructed in Kosovo since XVIII-XIX century. As a case study, one took the Kulla, which were constructed in the Plain of Dukagjin. These types of dwellings were not constructed solely in Kosovo, but also in other countries of the region, that is: Northern Albania, Macedonia, and Montenegro. In Kosovo, the major parts of these buildings were constructed in the Plain of Dukagjin. Usually these buildings were constructed in two and three floors.Characteristic feature of these buildings is the division of functions in vertical direction. The research is based on the literature, analysis of the buildings, the research that was done up to now, including the interviewing of the persons-owners of the Kullas. The aim was to get an understanding on the purpose of constructing the Kulla in vertical manner.Kulla was analyzed in functional, architectural, constructive and condition aspect, which it offers to its inhabitants. There are a lot of factors that influenced on the construction of these buildings, one of them being the climate. Kosovo is characterized by a harsh climate during cold season of the year, which influenced on the relatively low height of the floors. Another feature is limited lighting in the ground floor, which increases steadily going further up to the last floor, as well as through the embrasures used for fire arms.
Since 1947, apartment buildings have made their apparition in the Kosovar city landscape. Different aspects have been highlighted by this extensive research: the different types of architecture and their respective characteristics, the modifications made to them throughout the years and the factors, which contributed to these modifications. These buildings have been divided into two categories, the older buildings built by the public sector from 1947 until 1999 and the recent ones built from 1999 until the present time by the private sector.Analytical and comparative methods have been used to conduct this research. The results revealed that the living area in apartment buildings built after 1999 has been reduced compared to those built earlier, which implies a general trend of decrease of habitable living space. In addition to this, a change worth mentioning in the functionality of these apartment buildings has been noticed. A survey sent to Kosovar citizens was used in order to obtain their opinions on this subject.
Based on the research that was performed at the multi-family apartments generally built in Republic of Kosovo, it was observed that these types of buildings underwent several transformations that can be classified in two groups. The manner of organization of living space at multi-family apartments differs in the buildings constructed before 1999 and those constructed since that year up to present time. Due to the various changes, be it political, the manner of construction of the buildings after 1999 and other issues of this nature, the living spaces started to shrink, in some cases to such a degree that they are not suitable to meet the needs of the users. All this doesn't end here, the issue is more sensitive when one deals with social housing buildings, the latter used by the inhabitants that cannot afford to solve by themselves the housing issue based on the monthly incomes that they have. The researcher endeavored to offer a description regarding social housing and to perform an analysis in functional and surface area aspect of the multi-family apartments in order to understand if the living space transformation phenomenon is prevalent also at the social housing.
The research deals with the analysis of the Hotels, where as a case study is taken Kosovo. Focus study were the cities with the greatest number of people, namely those which are visited more by tourists. The research is based on analytical method, which helps in the final results. Analyzed in terms of functional objects, architectural, access to the facility, their capacity and conditions that they offer guests. The classification of buildings is done in two groups; a) Those built before 1999 and b) Those built after 1999. Analysis show that cases of hotels built before 1999, which once met all the requirements in terms of functional, architectural and urban planning, today some of them lack any of the basic elements, characteristic of a hotel. Furthermore, from analysis few hotels built after 1999, meet the functional elements in terms of interior space, but on the other hand they lack in urban and architectural aspects.
