ResultsIn the distribution of sex the ratio between boys and girls were similar, but regarding the age, 0~6 year-old group was more than that of 7~15 year-old group. In the traffic accident patterns, 87.6% of the entire children patients were injured by car crash. The highest type in the collision between cars was rear-ending impact. The most patients (48.8%) visited our hospital for oriental medical treatment in less than 3 days after the traffic accident. The number of the first visitors in the Oriental Medical Hospital were 77 (63.6%) and those who visited other western hospitals before and were 44 (36.4%). The most frequent duration of admission and treatment in OPD was less than 7 days. Sleeping disorders (37.1%) were diagnosed the highest in 0~6 year-old group and C-spine sprain (49.0%) was diagnosed the highest at 0~7 years-old group. Herb medications were prescribed to relieve anxiety for 0~6 year-old group and for 7~15 year-old group, those were prescribed to activate blood eliminating phlegm and to normalize Qi flow. The highest effective treatment period was less than 7 days.
ConclusionsThis data suggested that the oriental medical care could be more effective in treating children victims of traffic accidents by confirming many different symptoms depending on the age.
ObjectivesThis study is performed to investigate the use of oriental medicine on pediatric outpatients with atopic dermatitis(AD).
MethodsThe study was carried out with 267 AD outpatients who visited the Department of Pediatrics, Oriental Medical Hospital from January 2010 to May 2011 and was completed by reviewing patients' chart.
ResultsThe relative frequency of AD on the oriental pediatrics hospital was 6.8%. In a sexual distribution, the male children were more frequent than the females. In an age distribution, atopic dermatitis children visited the hospital were the most frequent in the age from 3 to 10. The highest frequency that started the oriental therapy after the outbreak of AD was from 1 month to 1 year. Approximately, 49.4% of the children who visited hospital relied on western medicine in treating their atopic dermatitis. The therapeutic effect of the oriental medicine was found to be excellent in 47.9%, no change was seen in 16.9%, and aggravation was seen in 3.4% of the patients. Less than a month of oriental treatment was the most common. The improvement depending on the length of the treatment was found to be 91.8% in more than 3 months, and 21.8% in less than 1 month. The use of the herbal medicine and herbal external treatment was seen in 67.4% and the therapeutic effect was improved in 63.3% of the patients.
ConclusionsConsidering the results, we can improve accommodation of oriental therapies for the pediatric outpatients with atopic dermatitis, and enhance the doctor-patient relationship to help the children with atopic dermatitis.
ObjectivesThis study was performed to investigate the effect of hot spring therapy on children weight, body composition and heart rate variability.
MethodsThe study was carried out from 30 children who visited the spa from August 1, 2011 to August 31, 2011. We measured the change of weight, body composition, and heart rate variability after hot spring therapy for an hour per day.
ResultsThe subject was consisted of 13 boys and 17 girls. This study revealed that their weight got lost from a hot spring therapy, which was statistically significant. Their body mass index(BMI) was decreased in from a hot spring therapy, which was not statistically significant. Total body water, muscle, protein, and mineral were decreased from a hot spring therapy, which was statistically significant. We measured HRV(heart rate variability) before and after the hot spring therapy. The mean HRT was increased, which was statistically insignificant. SDNN(standard deviation of the NN interval) and RMSSD(square root of the mean of the sum of the square of differences) were not different before and after the hot spring therapy. ln TP was decreased insignificantly. ln VLF was not affected before and after hot spring therapy. ln LF and ln HF was decreased, LF norm was increased, and HF norm was decreased, which were not statistically significant. Also, LF/HF ratio was increased insignificantly.
ConclusionsFrom these results, we concluded that the weight, total body water, muscle, protein, and mineral got lost from the hot spring therapy. However, the HRV was not affected from the hot spring therapy.
