This paper studies the noise level near the mines in the Jiu Valley using the Bruel & Kjaer Noise Dose Meter Type 4448. The purpose of the paper is to determine the noise level and how it can be reduced so that it falls within the limits imposed by law. The monitoring was done for a period of three months, during which we analyzed and compared the data with the values established by law. The results of our monitoring showed that the noise due to mining activities has a rather influential aspect in terms of occupational safety and security and does not directly affect daily life.
As a result of the exploitation of coal in the mines from the Jiu Valley, significant quantities of tailings result from the mining works, but also from the coal preparation processes. They are stored in piles of different sizes, placed on the ground horizontally or between mountains, piles called tailings dumps. For the construction of tailings dumps the first requirement was the removal of the vegetal layer from the soil surface, a requirement that was often not observed so that the environment was affected. This paper aims to show how the environment around the Vulcan coal mine was affected in 2020..
The processing, transport and storage of flammable materials in the form of dust generates an explosion risk due to the possibility of initiating potentially explosive atmospheres created by dust suspended in air with various ignition sources, some of which may be their own installations. As explosions can cause human casualties and severe property damage, the explosion risk assessment and the application of appropriate measures by manufacturers and users of installations to prevent the ignition of explosive atmospheres is of particular importance for the safety and health of persons and goods. This paper deals with both technical and procedural aspects related to the risk assessment for belt conveyors for bulk materials, with reference to the requirements of European directives and applicable standards. There are two European Directives, so-called ATEx Directives, which regulate the placing on the European market of products intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres and their safe use: Directive 2014/34/EU and Directive 1999/92/EC. The paper presents some aspects regarding the border situations where the two directives apply, in the case of assemblies of equipment to be assessed by a manufacturer in accordance with the Directive 2014/34/EU for putting on the market and the installations that are equipment assembled by the user under his responsibility and have to be assessed by users in accordance with the Directive 1999/92/EC requirements.
Many processes involving dusts, suspended or accumulated, have the potential to lead to fire, explosion or decomposition in the presence of oxygen and an ignition source. The risk of dust explosions increases as more and more products take the form of dusts or require the use of dusts during manufacture. In spite of extensive research and development to prevent and mitigate dust explosions in the process industries, this phenomenon continues to represent a constant hazard to industries including manufacturing, using and handling of combustible dust material. The purpose of explosion preventing and protection measures is to prevent explosion occurrence, by eliminating or avoiding the conditions leading to explosions. The dust explosion and combustion characteristics are required to be known, in order to suitably choose and draw up the preventive and protection measures. Once known, the protection/prevention measures can be correlated with the safety characteristics. The aim of this paper is to analyze of explosion and combustion characteristics of wood dust clouds in dependence of the particle size distribution. The paper shows the importance of knowing the explosive characteristics of dusts and identifying the factors of influence in obtaining the results.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
