In the last decades, the continuous evolution of the automotive industry, accompanied by product development management systems, has provided new challenges, among which, the planning and strict compliance of all stages and deadlines without losing the objective of meeting the most varied customer expectations. The product development needs a management that presents all the potential failure modes, systematically, conducting projects that meet the customers' needs with low sales costs to the market. In this scenario, this work aimed to present the benefits obtained by using the Define, Measure, Analyze, Design and Verify (DMADV) method to improve new product development activities. For the development of this work, a qualitative research was conducted, including a broad bibliographic research of the methodologies used in product development management and a case study in an automotive safety belt company. The use of the DMADV method activities, described in the DFLSS methodology, in the second phase of APQP, resulted in better management of the activities performed by the product development team, proving that it was possible to develop a more robust and assertive solution. It is concluded that the use of the methodology promoted greater vision to those responsible for product development, provided the area with a Six Sigma vision, met the goals set by the customer, and did not generate additional expenses in the correction of characteristic problems of this phase.
