Despite frequent complications and recurring signs of lower urinary tract disease, 32.2 per cent of the cats had a disease-free long-term outcome (mean four years, median 3.9 years), and 88.6 per cent of clients interviewed thought that their cats had a good quality of life after surgery.

The NIH PROMIS system consists of validated measures and software for assessing a patient's health status across physical, mental and social well-being domains.Assessment Center, the accompanying software developed by PROMIS utilizes computer adaptive testing techniques that tailor respondent's questions based on their previous responses. This results in reliable, flexible and precise scores with low patient burden when compared to traditional static PRO measures.The software was written by developers at the Department of Medical Social Sciences (MSS) at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. It was initially designed as a turn-key solution for patient-reported outcomes research. In an effort to better target mobile devices, we have recently 'wrapped' the adaptive technology and workflow of Assessment Center in a REST API that permits developers and researchers to write applications for any connected mobile device.This presentation will provide a background and history of the PROMIS measures, describe the REST API, demonstrate a smartphone application that utilizes the REST API and conclude with a look at the impact and future use of mobile applications that provide broader distribution of PROMIS tools.

For f20 school physics departments can now join the Schools Affiliation Scheme launched by The Institute of Physics at the ASE annual conference at Exeter in January. The scheme entitles schools to several financial concessions-physics departments can in fact save themselves more than the cost of the affiliation fee in the first year.Affiliated schools will receive the six issues of Physics Education plus the physics courses supplement, or the six issues of Physics in Technology. They will also receive five free copies of each issue of Snippets, careers publications, wallcharts, industrial data pamphlets, physics applications in industry pamphlets, overhead transparencies, and other educational materials either free or at cost price, at a time when the Institute is forced to charge higher pnces to other schools.Through the scheme the Institute's Education Department will be constantly in touch with physics teachers in the schools. In this way the Institute hopes both to help the teacher with presentation of information and to influence significantly the ways in which physics is taught and the attitudes of children towards physics, engineering and industry.The affiliation is not restricted to school physics departments, and the Institute welcomes the involvement of any other groups or institutions interested in physics education.
