Researchers are interested in marital satisfaction since it is signicant for couples' psychological well-being. They have been studying the factors that lead to a happy marriage for a long time. Adult attachment styles, according to the prior study, serve an active role in forming an intimate relationship. The purpose of the current study was to examine the inuence of adult attachment styles (Secure, Fearful, Dismissive, and Preoccupied) on marital satisfaction among Indian married couples. 304 respondents (152 females & 152 males) from various cities across India participated in the study. To assess the participants' attachment styles and marital satisfaction, the Revised Adult Attachment Scale (Collins, 1996) and ENRICH-SF Marital Satisfaction Scale (Fowers, & Olson, 1993) were used respectively. The statistical analysis was determined using the Chisquare, Kruskal-Wallis One way ANOVAand Mann-Whitney U tests. Results showed that the respondents with secure and dismissive attachment styles had higher marital satisfaction than the respondents with preoccupied and fearful attachment styles. The study found that male and female subjects did not differ signicantly in their attachment styles and marital satisfaction. However, participants who were married for more than 20 years were more in number to have experienced a secure attachment style and they had higher marital satisfaction. Psychotherapists and counsellors in general, and couple therapists in particular, will benet from the current research. Further study will aid in a better understanding of this nding.
Marital satisfaction is not something that comes naturally to a person. The greater the individual's awareness and life skills, the more content he or she is with marriage. One of the factors that can inuence marital satisfaction is trait emotional intelligence. Previous research has found that individuals with higher emotional intelligence are more aware of their own and others' emotions, are better at managing their marital relationships, are better at resolving disagreements, and are better at dealing with marital dilemmas. The current study aimed to investigate the inuence of trait emotional intelligence on marital satisfaction among married couples in India. There were 304 participants (152 females and 152 males) from various cities across India. To assess participants' emotional intelligence and marital satisfaction, the TEIQue-SF and ENRICH-SF were used. The statistical analysis was determined using the Chi-square, Kruskal-Wallis, and Mann-Whitney U tests. Results indicated participants with better emotional intelligence had higher marital satisfaction. Except for the sociability level of emotional intelligence, the gender difference was not signicant in any of the scores. Hence, concluded that higher levels of emotional intelligence lead to greater marital satisfaction. The current ndings are useful for psychotherapists in general, and couple therapists in particular. Further research will help to clarify this discovery
Emotion, both positive and negative, is one of the markers of intimate relationships. Attachment theory is one of the primary conceptual frameworks for understanding emotion regulation. There is a well-established link in the literature between secure romantic attachment style and emotional intelligence (EI) in scientic studies. The underlying processes of this link among couples are notably less explored in the Indian context. As an attempt to bridge the gap, the present study analyzed the inuence of attachment styles and EI interplay on marital satisfaction among Indian couples. The study considered 304 respondents (152 females, 152 males, ranged from -25 to 65+ years old) with a marriage duration greater than three years. To assess participants attachment styles, EI, and marital satisfaction, Revised Adult Attachment Scale (RAAS; Collins, 1996), Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (TEIQue; Petrides, 2009) and ENRICH Marital Satisfaction Scale (EMS; Fowers & Olson, 1993) were used respectively. Two-way ANOVA was used to analyse the data. The result revealed that there is a signicant interaction between attachment styles and global EI on marital satisfaction. Psychotherapists and counsellors in general, and couple therapists in particular, will benet from the current research. Considering the limitation of the study, further investigation is recommended.
There is a reason why the phrases "love and loss" appear so frequently in mourning literature. Love and loss are two sides of the same coin; when we choose one, we open the door to the possibility of the other (Kosminsky & Jordan, 2016, p. 53). It is hardly surprising, therefore, that some similarities arise in how we establish attachment relationships and react to them throughout detachment and reattachment. Each person we love is unique, regardless of how many close relationships we have or with whom we have them. As a result, mourning for that person is a oneof-a-kind experience when the time comes. However, these universal sentiments share certain characteristics, which provide a framework for comprehending loss (Shear In Neimeyer, 2016, p. 14). Loss is an inevitable part of life and development. This may sound paradoxical, but the truth is that new life, change, and forward progress can only occur through losing (changing) an old lifestyle, behaviour pattern, or other aspects of the status quo (Walter & McCoyd, 2009, p. 1). Grief and mourning are the terms we hear the most in the current condition of transition to the new normal during Covid-19 circumstances, whether it is the loss of a person or an object. Recognising necessity, the authors endeavoured to conduct a review study on grief and associated concepts such as attachment, love, loss, mourning and bereavement from various perspectives. Finally, a personal experience is shared to make the study more impactful. By breaking the notion down into its core components, the current study provides everyone interested in exploring grief with a methodical overview as well as a rm understanding of the concept. Those seeking further information in the original literature will nd detailed references included.
