We have studied the mechanism of enzymatic deinking because there is few papers concerning it.In the previous paper three important points were reported, namely, mechanical forces were necessary in enzymatic deinking, the main function of enzymes was to convert Hairy toner to Clean toner, and higher charge of enzymes gave a lower efficiency in ink separation at a flotation.A new test method was developed for the easy evaluation of the convertion rate from Hairy toner to Clean toner because this convertion could be a key of the mechanism in enzymatic deinking. By this method several enzymatic conditions and six enzymes were evaluated.The enzyme with higher Avicel activity could convert more effectively at a certain level of CMC activity. Therefore Avicel activity would be a key factor to remove fibers from Hairy toner along with mechanical force and CMC activity. And the enzyme addition could decrease mechanical force.Comparing the results by both the test and usual deinking experiment, the close correlation between them could be observed. We can confirm that Avicel activity is important factor for the conversion.
Nippon Paper Industries Iwanuma Mill produces Refiner Groundwood Pulp(RGP)as mechanical pulp for High-quality newsprint, which is one of our company's strategic products. RGP process consumes much energy compared to DIP or KP process. The energy consumption of RGP is equivalent to1 0% of energy used in whole mill. The energy is supplied by mill's own boilers and turbines. Since one of the boilers is heavy oil boiler, recent steep rise of oil price made a serious impact on RGP production cost. Under these circumstances we introduced High-speed refiner made by Andritz K. K., for the first time in Japan to reduce primary refining energy consumption. This High-speed refiner had been already introduced to several TMP process (RTSTM) outside Japan and they are successful in saving energy. However, there was no precedent installation in Japan, no knowledge about resulting RGP properties were available. Therefore pilot scale trial at Andritz K. K. pilot plant was conducted. The result showed that saving energy while maintaining pulp properties were possible. According to these results we decided to introduce this refiner. The installed High-speed refiner is single disk refiner, which has distinctive rotational speed of2, 1 5 0rpm. Specific energy was reduced from1, 2 0 0kWh/t to6 8 0kWh/t with same pulp properties.This report shows operation experience of High-speed refiner in saving energy of RGP process compared to former refiner.
In2 0 0 9, I was transferred to Australian Paper as a Nippon paper representative because Australian Paper (hereinafter referred to as AP)became a member of Nippon Paper Group. During my stay in Australia, I tried to introduce some of Nippon paper's ways into AP and most of them were accepted by AP management albeit, after much discussion and some minor modification to ensure alignment with their Australian culture.In terms of the life in Australia, it was exciting for me because it provided me with an opportunity to experience another culture and to make many friends. I also had a chance to become a member of Latrobe International Exchange Committee and was in charge of Sister City Day Festival etc. From a globalization perspective, to know and understand another culture, their language and their way of thinking, was very important and rewarding for me and I believe this will be of benefit to me in my future roles with Nippon Paper.
