<p>Flexible AC transmission system are widley used in power sytems to ensure voltage stability, in virtue of their high cost the choise of the best location in electrical network is essential. The porpose of this paper is to present a new method for finding the optimal location, size and number of Static Var Compensator in order to enhace the voltage stability of electrical network. The optimal solution has been found by using the evolutionary programming algorithm, particle swarm optimization, combined with voltage stability indexes used for the estimation of the voltage collapse in power systems.The proposed algorithm has been validated by application on both simulation network model IEEE 30-Buses under different load cases and the electric network model of Casablanca region in Morocco.The results of the application have been analysed and compared in each case in order to get the optimal number of Static Var Compensator to be used.</p>
The increase of cyber-attacks on industrial and power systems in the recent years make the cybersecurity of supervisory control and data acquisition and substation automation systemsa high important engineering issue. This paper proposes a defense in depth cybersecurity solution for smart substations in different layers of the substation automation system. In fact, it presents possible vulnerabilities in the substation automation system and propose a multiple layer solution based on best practice in cyber security such as the hardening ofdevices, whitelisting, network configuration, network segmentation, role-based account management and cyber security management and deployement.
This paper presents a novel smart local backup protection SLBP used for the support and backup of the protective relays in a smart substation. The proposed SLBP is based on the IEC61850 standards and the concept consists of the acquisition of Generic Object Oriented Substation Event GOOSE used for tripping and interlocks exchange between Intelligent Equipment Devices IEDs and the reading of the Sampled Value SV existing in the process bus coming from Mergin Units MU or Non-Conventional Instrument Transformers NCIT. Several logical schemes to protect different zones of the substation are presented and how can be integrated using data in the substation automation system. The SLBP was developed using an open source library and free operating system. Moreover, a low cost prototype is presented in order to evaluate the efficiency and the operation of the SLBP under diverse scenarios of the proposed logical protective schemes such us breaker failure and overcurrent protection
