“Citizens of the world” is a term widely used today to describe those individuals who cross cultural boundaries for various reasons; this term should be particularly applicable to the Middle East, as the region is characterized by cultural, religious, ethnic, racial, and linguistic diversity. Examining intercultural communication in the Middle East from an Arab perspective contributes to developing a comprehensive understanding of various issues in this region, including how Middle Eastern Arabs and Muslims, in particular, view themselves and how others view (or stereotype) them. Cultural, ethnic, and religious identities frame the communication styles of Middle Eastern people and guide them in their interactions and communication with others.
