This research aimed to describe women’s position in Prohaba Daily News texts based on Sara Mills and Theo van Leeuwen perspective of critical discourse analysis, especially the analysis of actor position, exclusion and inclusion. This is a descriptive qualitative research in which data were collected by documentation technique. The data were Prohaba Daily News texts during 2018. The data were analyzed using Sara Mills’ actor position analysis model and Theo van Leeuwen’s exclusion and inclusion analysis. Actor position analysis included subject position and object position. Exclusion analysis included the passivation, nominalization, and substitution of clauses. While the inclusion analysis included differentiation-indifferentiation, objectivity-abstraction, nomination-identification, nomination-categorization, determination-indetermination, assimilation-individualization, and association-disassociation. The results showed that Prohaba Daily News texts positioned female actors in subject and object position in their news texts. Women as non-marginalized subject found in three news texts. Women as non-marginalized objects found in two news texts. Women in the marginalized object position found in eight news texts. Marginalization was conducted by using exclusion and inclusion strategies. The exclusion strategy used includes the nomination and substitution of clauses. Inclusion strategies used were differentiation-indifferentiation, objectivity-abstraction, nomination-identification, nomination-categorization, and association-disassociation. In addition, the use of certain vocabularies can marginalize the position of women in the daily news text Prohaba.
The objective of this study is to describe characteristics of Aceh verse. The description covers: (1) number of verses per couplet, (2) long and short verse, (3) content of verse, and (4) poetical nuance of verse. Data of this study were obtained from document of Aceh’s verse and SMS. The study reveals that each couplet of Aceh verse consists of verses that varies from: 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 12 verses. Relying upon its length, Aceh verses may consist of a one-complete sentence verse and some couplets verses or a brief story. Contents of Aceh verses are classified into: (1) religious verses, (2) advice verses, (3) tradition verses, (4) fate verses, (5) young verses, (6) joke verses, (7) kidding verses, (8) condolences verses, (9) happiness verses, (10) children verses, and (11) seumapa verses. Based on poetical nuances, a perfect Aceh’s verse should advice coherent rhymes and rhythms (pakhok and buhu) incorporating intended message, couplets and contents.
This study aims at analyzing historical facts encountered in the novel Keumala Woman (Perempuan Keumala) written by Endang Moerdopo. The analyses comprises of historical facts about: (1) Keumalahayati, (2) historical events, and (3) places having historical story. Data of this study are sequences of events in the novel pertaining to historical realities. New historicism analysis is used to describe the data. The study reveals some findings. First, Keumalahayati is a royal woman who finished her education in Military Academy Makhad Baitul Makdis. Several names that supports historical fact is her husband Sultan Alaiddin Riayat Syah, Cut Limpah, Alfonso, Sultan Muda, Cornelis de Houtman and Frederick de Houtman. Second, historical events incurred in the novel included the development of Makhad Baitul Makdis, the war to Portoguuese in Teluk Haru, rebellion of Sultan Muda, and the arrival of the Dutch for the first time in Aceh. Third, name of places supporting historical facts consisted of Makhad Baitul Makdis, kingdom palace, Krueng Raya Harbor, Pulau Weh, Benteng Inong Balee, Teluk Haru, and Tamiang. This novel is in fact a historical novel particularly that describes the heroism of Keumalahayati.
Cooperative Principle on Speech Acts in The TrialsThe objective of this study is to examine the cooperative principle contained in the trials at Banda Aceh District Court. The cooperative principle examined in this study consists of the maxim of quality, the maxim of quantity, the maxim of manner, and the maxim of relevance. Data for the study was drawn from nine court cases involving specific and general crimes. Data collection was carried out by recording the trials with a voice recorder. Triangulation of data was carried out by linking the cooperative principle contained in the trial with the cooperative principle theory and comparing them with the findings of other researchers. The writer concluded that the maxims of quality and quantity contained in the trial are confirmation questions. This is because the judge already knows the answer because it is in the minutes. The defendant's answers were informative and did not exceed the judge's expectations. At the same time, the application of the maxim of the manner in the trial can occur because the information provided regarding the judge's questions is answered by the speech partner clearly and regularly. This is equivalent to the maxim of relevance which requires the exchange of information to be in accordance with the topic expected by the questionnaire.AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji prinsip kerja sama yang terdapat dalam persidangan di Pengadilan Negeri Banda Aceh. Prinsip kerja sama yang diteliti dalam penelitian ini terdiri atas maksim kualitas, maksim kuantitas, maksim cara, dan maksim relevansi. Data penelitian berupa sembilan perkara persidangan yang meliputi pidana khusus dan pidana umum yang disidangkan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan merekam persidangan dengan alat bantu perekam suara. Triangulasi data dilakukan dengan cara mengaitkan prinsip kerja sama yang terdapat dalam persidangan dengan teori prinsip kerja sama dan membandingkan dengan hasil penelitian yang dilakukan oleh peneliti lainnya. Penulis menyimpulkan bahwa maksim kualitas dan kuantitas yang terdapat dalam persidangan merupakan pertanyaan konfirmasi sebab hakim sudah mengetahui jawaban tersebut karena terdapat dalam berita acara. Jawaban yang diberikan oleh terdakwa bersifat informatif dan tidak melebihi ekspektasi hakim. Penerapan maksim cara dalam persidangan terjadi karena informasi yang diberikan dijawab oleh mitra tutur secara jelas dan teratur. Hal itu sejajar dengan maksim relevansi yang mengharuskan pertukaran informasi haruslah sesuai dengan topik yang diharapkan oleh penanya.
