The Korean Peninsula is situated on the southeastern margin of the Eurasian plate, in a transitional setting between island arc and back-arc terranes resulting from subduction of the Philippine Sea plate beneath the Eurasian plate. Seismic tomography data show that the subduction zone near the Korean Peninsula is several hundred kilometers deep (Zhao et al., 2004(Zhao et al., , 2007.
