This paper provides a concise review of the most interesting passive and active filters of power factor correction, for single phase and low power applications. The increasing growth in the use of electronic equipment in recent years has resulted in a greater need to ensure that the line current harmonic content of any equipment connected to the ac mains is limited to meet regulatory standards. This requirement is usually satisfied by incorporating some form of Power Factor Correction (PFC) circuits to shape the input phase currents, so that they are sinu nature and are in phase with the input phase voltages. There are multiple solutions in which line current is sinusoidal. The major advantages and disadvantages are highlighted.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
