The large and increasing amounts of municipal solid waste (MSW) generated each year in several industrialised countries have raised concerns on the economic viability and environmental acceptability of the current generation activities. The planning of an optimal regional waste management strategy requires a reliable tool for predicting the amount and the corresponding composition of MSW likely to be produced. Furthermore, for integrated solid waste management, direct and indirect participation of local government's authority is essential. This paper focuses on the existing waste management characteristics of selected local authorities in Malaysia. As a case study, the research considers three local authorities in Selangor State, namely Selayang, Klang and Subang Jaya. This research further identifies the issues concerning the enviromnental effects due to indiscriminate solid waste disposal. The findings of the study are expected to provide useful guidelines to the MSW policy makers.
Numerous activities in construction and demolition (C&D) projects are generally considered as complex and di stant that may affect surrounding environment and public health. Construction, remodell ing, repairing, refurbishing or demotion works of buildings and other infrastructures such as roads generate huge amounts of hazardous and non-hazardous materials. In the present work, an attempt has been made to highlight a number of issues in C&D waste management in the Klang valley of Malaysia and which then discusses the current traditions of managing those materials in Malaysian perspectives. The paper concludes with a number of recommendations that can help to improve C&D waste management in Malaysia national perspectives.
This study covers the influence of the parameters and factors that modify the urban inhabitants' quality of life. Recently, professionals paid attention in and concern for environmental effects to the cycle of urban fabrics and structural health. The parametric matrix confronted by urbanization growth and affects the daily routine of urban dwellers. Then the purpose is to investigate the parametric characteristics of the urban environment at scale and which needs to be validated by experiments and observation. A valid model in neighbourhood scale has been employed for the data analysis. Results displayed environmental modification in micro level and enormous macro-level.
