This study is basically an analysis using political discourse, with an angle to investigate the appeals in political rhetoric. This study uses Aristotle's model for persuasion and to find out the ethos, logos and pathos elements in the speeches of Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan. This study is presenting the analysis of Imran Khan's first three speeches on the panic situation of the spread of corona-virus. The study reveals that there is a sizeable use of logos and pathos in the speeches on Covid19. Using pathos in the speeches, there is the use of different appeals, i.e. fear, nationhood, hope and religion. There is significant use of fear and religious appeal in the category of pathos, while the use of logical appeal was also in ample size.
Analysis of the media coverage on the attack incidence on Malala (Nobel peace prize winner) benefits to comprehend the notions that how media outline the opinions and viewpoints. Media outlets play a dynamic role in how the people perceive several issues highlighted in the news. The media organize the varied framing of realism of issues of the public interest and vice versa. The study objectives are to find out that how the leading print media in Pakistan have covered Malala issue and classify the variances amongst the two leading newspapers based on several categories. Two Urdu newspapers (Jang and Nawa-e-Waqt) of Pakistan were selected for this study based on their high circulation and trustworthiness amongst the readers. The print newspapers published in the months of October and November 2012 were examined to find the framing of Malala issue. The study reveals that the favorable (56%), unfavorable (16%) and neutral (27%) frames found in the newspaper Jang and favorable (46%), unfavorable (47%) and neutral (7%) found in Nawa-e-Waqt. It is also observed that favorable Malala issue related news stories were disseminated more in Jang.
This is a survey based study that investigates the impact of reenactment based crime shows on youth. The study is conducted in educational institutions of South Punjab (Pakistan). a sample of 100 respondent was collected through distribution of the questionnaire and their response was analyzed. The results were analyzed by using five variables namely: Violence, Language, Seduction, Instigation and Fear. It was interesting to find that many of the youth consider some sort of violence and foul language justified in the given situation of the reenactment show. A significant number of youth found the use of alcohol and smoking inappropriate and use of lie in given situation unacceptable. There was a significant number of youth respondents who found the display of love, romance, flirt, prostitution, physical relations and rape seducing, in different scenes of reenactment crime shows. There were some youth viewers who felt the society unsafe for them or others after watching violence and crimes in the reenactment shows.
An adequate amount of economic literature exists which examines the determinants of human philanthropic activities however, not much work seems regarding influence of religion in such behaviour 2. The economists now acknowledge the significance of neglected non-economic factors like religious, spiritual and ethical attributes which play an important role in economic decision making of individuals and households. It is evident from the scriptures describing history that caring of mankind is a divinely prevalent value from the dawn of civilization. The religious orientation promotes and strengthens such values thus causing enhancement in the altruistic activities. Mostly that has been unnoticed and analysis was mainly focused around the warm glow, tax price, public good, social acclaim and impure altruism, missing to also consider Divine beliefs, perceived reward of worldly deeds in an afterlife, in the form of Paradise and Hell. The present study develops a theoretical model under the recently emerged framework known as Divine Economics which models the relationship between perception about an afterlife and household's systematic behavior to optimize eternal utility (Fala'h) i.e. the successfulness of both lives (here and hereafter) through time and resource allocation in philanthropic activities. Such an allocation is a main tool to alleviate poverty in any religious and particularly Islamic society. The study is based on Religiosity Scales and index of Divine Economics [Hamdani 2004, 2006] have been prepared for the cross sectional analysis of 817 households collected through Divine Economic Survey (2009) 3 in four Capital cities in Pakistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir to examine such hypothesis. Political campaigns are usually a combination of interpersonal and “Mass” communication with the expectation of positive outcomes by the political representatives. This study is an attempt to give an idea regarding respondent’s ability and trends of processing the political contents of Mass media. Elaboration Likelihood Model is taken as a framework for evaluating the content processing trends. A questionnaire comprising of two parts and consisting the cue list of central and peripheral notations commonly used by political representatives. A sample of 1032 young people was selected by using a combination of stratified and multistage cluster sampling techniques. Results of the study revealed that majority of the youth did not bother to process the political content by effortful cognition, rather they followed attractive slogans and political personalities. Moreover it was found that people used the same approach for decision making in favor of a political party as they use to hate the opponent parties.
