Functional food is a whole ingredient or a part of food that used as food for specific therapeutic purposes. It is divided into two wide categories: Conventional and modified functional foods. Conventional functional Foods are composed of natural or whole-food ingredients that provide functional substances while modified functional is food or food products in which add additional ingredients for specific health purposes. Plant-based food such as fruits, vegetables, herbs, cereals, nuts and beans contain vitamins, minerals, fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants and phenolic compounds that play a functional role in the human body against chronic diseases including cancer, cardiovascular and GIT-related disease. Some other foods or food products like juices, dairy products, fortified eggs and seafood are composed of functional components. Fish contain omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) that are played a functional role in heart health and brain development.
Aim: Assessment and enhancement of self efficacy can improve the self management behavior of hypertensive patients. The aim of present study is to translate self-efficacy for managing chronic disease 6-item scale (SEM-CD6) into Urdu and check its validity and reliability. Methodology: A questionnaire based, observational cross sectional study was designed and conducted from March to August 2017 in 5 different Hypertension clinics of Quetta, Pakistan. Instrument was first translated in to Urdu by Forward -Back translation method. Internal consistency (Cronbach's Alpha), Descriptive statistics and Principle component analysis were used to check its Psychometric properties. Linear regression models were used to interpret Beta values.
Employee happiness as well as well-being at the workplace is an emerging concept in the management and psychology domain. This article aims to analyze the impact of grit on employees’ workplace happiness via psychological capital (PsyCap), moderated by coaching culture and theorize by trait activation theory. Data were collected from 272 employees working in the public and private sectors of the service industry in Pakistan. For statistical analysis, we conducted reliability, correlation, and process Hayes. Employees who were highly engaged and grittier, satisfied at work, and feel happy while PsyCap fully mediated this relationship between grit and happiness at work. Coaching culture on the other side moderate this relationship between grit and workplace happiness through PsyCap such that the relationship is strong for the high value of coaching culture than when it is low. It's been found that grit is a greater indicator of future success than Intelligence. Therefore, it is the need of the hour that organizations developed PsyCap in employees through proper training and coaching. Encourage them to think long-term as well as short-term and teach them how to prioritize their work accordingly. Thus, in today’s dynamic business environment, this study contributes potential for organizational survival and growth.
Honey is acknowledged as a natural functional food with additional health benefits. Due to its medicinal and therapeutic properties, honey is being used in both pharmaceutical and food industries to develop products as a remedy against various types of ailments. Honey contains polyphenols, flavonoids, and other key compounds that play an important role in human health. Honey possesses anticancer and antimicrobial properties as well as contains antioxidant and anti-inflammatory substance. Some studies also highlighted the antidiabetic properties of honey. It supports the respiratory system and contributes beneficial effects to the cardiovascular system. As a functional and nutraceutical food, honey plays a significant role. Due to the modernization and digitalization in this era, the role of novel technologies for characterization and authentication of honey cannot be ignored. Hence, the main purpose of this chapter is to review the latest studies related to honey’s advantageous effects on human health and to highlight the novel technologies to detect the impurities in honey.
