Several projects within COST-50-II were concerned with evaluating corrosion behaviour of coatings applied on some most widely used substrates. Although different technique and evaluation criteria were employed considerable information on relative protective properties of coatings has been compiled. Significant requirements put on the coatings i.e. the corrosion resistance, the effect on mechanical properties, and the coating/substrate stability are reviewed in the light of protective potential of the coatings. Performance evaluation of selected coatings applied on different types of turbine blades encompassing operating conditions prevalent in modern aircraft engines has enabled to establish their merits. On turbine blades coating renewal criteria is covered briefly.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
